Why?

npm is the largest JavaScript packaged registry by a really big margin (largest programming language package registry in the world, actually).

npm is more than 5x as popular as Bower, and growing at a faster clip.

I did a webcast on this topic called Modular JavaScript with npm and Node Modules.
