Hi, i enabled call recording, remove call recording warnings and call screening. In the dialer settings the call screen is present and everything seems to be ok. Once i get a call and click on call screen the person who calls me doesn't hear anything. Otherwise the thing he says get transcripted correctly.

Steps:

  1. Get a call
  2. Click on Call Screen
  3. See that the caller can't hear the google voice

Have you already tried to force close and reopen the Dialer multiple times (at least three)?

I'm closing this issue because:

  • thread owner did not respond to request for more information (owner inactivity)
  • I was unable to replicate the bug (working for me)
  • the bug doesn't seem to affect other users than the thread owner (working for others)

@Mojiberus can you please confirm you have already tried to force close and restart Google Dialer at least 3 times?
Also, if you go to Dialer-->Settings-->Spam and Call Screen-->Call Screen-->Voice and you click on "Voice 1" or "Voice 2", can you hear the assistant speaking?

Also for me the first calls after the initial setup are mute, but after a couple of Dialer force restarts it works.

Yes, force stop 3+ times, repeating these steps I mentioned earlier, caller hears me instead.

Can you hear the assistant speaking?

Both of them

Also for me the first calls after the initial setup are mute, but after a couple of Dialer force restarts it works.

I'll try that, report back tomorrow

So after some time, about 17 hours, force stopping dialer 3+ times, rebooting OS, and then force stopping dialer 3+ times still makes nothing - caller hears me, not the assistant, and accept/hang up buttons can't be tapped (can hang up only in notification).
Also I noted that going to Settings --> Spam and Call Screen --> Call Screen shows "Activating Call Screen (requires WiFi)" for about half a second and then vanishes.

Thanks for your report and for your logcats. I'm looking at it (actually still not replicated it and no idea about what's going on).

Call screening never worked on custom roms / non-pixel phones. The issue you described was exactly, what I was experiencing on my old Samsung with Pixel experience rom. But without the mod.

So I don't think this is an GoogleDialerMod issue..

For me it works on a Xiaomi 11T Pro with stock MIUI 13 (Android 12).

It is said that module was supposed to work on unsupported devices and/or countries, and there is no requirement to use pixel-like ROM, so I have my doubts about your claim

I tested this again using the latest update of Phone version 97.0.500562617-publicbeta and still caller cannot hear google assistant talking. I think this is a connected issue with "Silence call recording alerts" because that alert is cannot be heard also by the caller but i can hear it from my phone. This maybe really a google issue now. I still generated logs for reference.

Does the call screening feature need the Google app itself? Also I disabled google assistant on phone setup.

I have a Huawei P20 Lite (ANE-LX1) with Android 13 AOSP and Gapps. Call screening can be clicked on call but the caller can't hear anything. And I can't see the text that should be read by google assistant on my screen when call screening is in use. I have force restarted the app many times and nothing worked.
I have the pixelify magisk module enabled and even with that it don't work. The phone mod app is the newest, just like the call app and I'm in Germany.

@jacopotediosi Are there any new updates on this issue? What makes some ROMs work with screening where others don't. Any way for us to resolve this?

I'm using Poco F1 running PixelOS Android 13.

I have Pixelify Magisk module installed and it's able to enable call recording and call screen for me. I can see them in the dialer settings.

For call screen, I can see the transcription text spoken by the caller. But they can't hear the assistant announcing that call screen is enabled. The Google Phone dialer version is v100. But I've also tried v94 and it doesn't make a difference.

Wifi is on. Google app is enabled (which I presume is needed for Google Assistant to work in the background). Have force closed dialer 5 times and cleared data for dialer and play store and play services and restarted phone, same issue.

I then tried this mod and it consistently makes things worse, by completely removing the call recording and call screen settings in the dialer. I've replicated this issue so many times now, by restoring to TWRP nandroid backup and then install GAppsMod and it would always fail to show even the call screen setting in the dialer.

same with arrowos 13 + ginkgo.

when silence annoucement enabled, call recording fails
when enabled, call recording works, but only i hear the announcement not the other part.

so it is kinda okay with me
