Data files with a 0 in the fourth column (to identify the instrument for multi_instrument) lead to a segmentation fault.

Things are still broken when reading files with the instrument id in the fourth column.
Most times, the data is sorted by time, so there can be intermingled points from different instruments. This leads to the wrong number of instruments.
