This is the release check list for 7.4 release. It is quite a bit of work.
There are some task that need to be done by core-dev, but many task that could be done by contributor to help. Task are not necessarily ordered and some can be done before others.

Subscribe if you want to help I'll update the issue as I'm working toward release. I usually attempt to do monthly release between 20 and 28 when I have time. The more help I get, the more probable the releases are :-)

I'm happy to delegate anything marked Help Welcomed to someone who want to help contribute to IPython and want to engage. I'm happy to details the subtasks more for clarification.

Previous release tasks: #11571

I can help on a few Help Welcomed sub-tasks like

  • Help Welcomed: Update the ipython website
  • Help Welcomed: Update the wikipedia page to point to latest release and its date.

I can also help!

@ppmfloss I would like to work on the website, would you mind to work on the wikipedia instead, or to divide this task?

Thanks all for pitching in,

I'll try to release around Friday Feb 22. @akshayparopkari is not too far from my office so we can see if I can get him to do the release.

Side note on this repo you should have the possibility to apply some tags to issues without having commit rights like so:

@meeseeksdev tag "help wanted"

If you like more permissions, just ask and I can give you the ability to close issue, add any tags, remove any tags....

@Carreau did you mean us that want to contribute or only @akshayparopkari needs to have these permissions?

I tested now on #11621 and it didn't work.

By default permissions are a bit limited you can't tag everything, but now you (@LucianaMarques) should be able to tag everything. See (https://github.com/ipython/ipython/blob/master/.meeseeksdev.yml)

If there are things you can't do let me know and I'll edit .meeseeksdev.yml) to give you (anyone that asks) those permissions.

Sure, no problem. You can work on the website. I will help on other tasks.

I'm thinking of starting t do the release today, maybe finish it, if not, I'll finish the release tomorrow.

@akshayparopkari is not too far from me, so we'll do some of the work locally (mostly things that needs my credentials).

I made sure that every merged or closed PR has a milestone. That is to say this list is now empty.

Every closed issues from 2019 onward should also now have a milestone on when it was closed. This list should have no issues from 2019.

Thanks Kiwi128 on wikipedia for updating the release there; we are not sure if you are a person or a bot.

See ipython/ipython-website#147

I find it interesting that so many people reached out, but never got to do anything. It's the same issue on the Roadmap of "contributions wanted" issues we made a while ago for Scapy: people register issues but never actually do anything.. :(
