Issue with Invoice Template Modifications

I have installed invoice ninja v5.3.40 on my VPS and experience some issues with the modifications of templates.

I am trying to adapt the Business template slightly for the footer and header area, the changes when saved, are visible in the Template preview correctly.

Unfortunately, any existing or new invoice with fall back to the default Business template., although my Business-based template has been saved under its own name and is assigned to the invoice form.

Anybody experiencing a similar issue? This is currently blocking me to move from v4 to v5.

One thing is to ensure you set your new design as the default. And you can also update all existing invoices to use the new design. Please note, you'll need to resave the invoice to force the PDF to regenerate.

Thanks for the answer. I have done that all. And even creating a new invoice based on the new template will render initially in that new template, but after saving and reopening, it is again back in the standard Business template.

My modifications for my own Business template are simple: I have changed the font color in the header and reduced the space for the footer area.

I'm not sure what is happening here as I am not able to recreate this.

If you change the template to a different invoice ninja template, do those changes stick?

I experimented a bit further. This behaviour is apparently linked to option to assign a Invoice Number only when the invoice is sent. So as draft it is not assigned any number yet. Then this issue with non-updating templates occurred. Even worse a draft invoice that has been deleted, and will be created after a template change (change to another base template) but using the same customer resulted in a draft invoice with the template before the invoice had been deleted, whilst a new one for another client renders with the new chosen template.

When setting option to "Assign number when saved" the template handling seems working properly for both the base template and any derivative thereof.

Does my explanation make sense? Did someone experience the same behaviour when assigning invoice number only upon sending?

@wol-win i can't recreate this at all unfortunately. changing the invoice number to when sent doesn't affect the template selection for me at all.
