Any plans for supporting native apple silicon linux (asahi)? #339

There is absolutely no reason to do this. Asahi Linux is a project to natively support the hardware of apple silicon machines. Virtual machines on apple silicon in fact do not represent this hardware but a rather standard arm64 environment. Thus there wouldn’t be any advantages whatsoever. (It could actually even introduce issues, as Asahi implements specific quirks needed for bare metal operation on current Macs.) Furthermore by now Asahi Linux basically is identical to Fedora Linux apart from said hardware specific optimisations, so if you want an Asahi like experience as a virtual machine just use Fedora. That said to my knowledge anything but Ubuntu is currently untested on VirtualBuddy, so ymmv. |
