We've seen a recent and recurring backlog of messages in the messenger_messages table of the production database, and truncating the table and re-indexing fully via ElasticSearch seems to fix it, but we shouldn't re-index during business hours.

Until we figure out the issue, we may want to do a weekly reindex, preferably automated, on a friday evening or weekend.
