Issue creating scratchpad for terminal

I've had success creating scratchpads for a number of applications within i3 but for some reason am not able to implement one for either gnome-terminal or Alacritty. The following config declarations work without issue:

3 exec alacritty --class Alacritty,ranger -e ranger

7 for_window [class="Alacritty" instance="htop"] resize set 1300 900

but neither this (nor the declaration for Alacritty) launch successfully when entering the specified keybinding.

xprop WM_CLASS

click on the gnome terminal window and paste the output here?

For a gnome-terminal window:

chris@chris-X1C6:~$ xprop WM_CLASS

For Alacritty:

Please follow the instructions at https://i3wm.org/docs/debugging.html and provide a log file as it would be helpful here.

I'd prefer it if you start a new session, start a gnome terminal and exit, as that would reduce the amount of log lines.
