a custom port path would allow for virtual ports on alias addresses and similar advanced setups..

currently - as fare as i can see - it is only possible to select one in the list of ports.
and its not clear to me how this list is generated....

You can enter a port name manually in the drop-down menu which is also a Text input. That includes virtual ports. For example pseudo tty ports under Linux. Does this not work for you?

thanks @hyOzd for your answer!

for me that does not work. i can not insert a text there...
at least with the serialplot-0.12.0-x86_64.AppImage

2023-12-27.23-35-59.mp4

i will try to compile from source and check if it is possible there..

i got it to compile -
and it starts up fine.
but its the same for the drop down - no text input possible.

therefore it crashed badly after closing the port...
(with an disc sleep and no way found to kill it...)
(→ seems if the process currently started a sys call to an io operation it can be in an state where it is not possible to kill.. source)

Have you tried the port selection in the "Port" panel? The one in the toolbar doesn't have text input capability as I remember.
