I was able to reproduce this problem - basically, when my net disconnects (my ISP enforces dc every 24h) Hexchat crashes and I need to kill it in task manager. I'm using Hexchat 2.9.1 x86 on Win7sp1:

HexChat 2.9.1

A multiplatform IRC Client

OS: Windows 7 [1.87GHz]
Charset: CP932 GTK+: 2.16.6
XChat Revision: r1521
Compiled: Jul 27 2012
Portable Mode: No
Build Type: x86

When I was using Xchat-WDK it never happened to me.

I need exact versions. Until which release it works and in which release it starts to break.

Everything was fine in last xchat-wdk build 1508-3 (x86) (and all before it), I only used 2 prerelease builds of Hexchat (the ones you posted on irc) but when I was using them my network didn't disconnect so I don't know if this issue was present in them.

Test HexChat 2.9.0 too and see if a disconnect kills it.

I did some testing - using 2.9.0 and 2.9.1 WITH and WITHOUT any addons but in both cases Hexchat crashed. Then I tested plugins shipped with Hexchat: After first installation I had this ones:

dns, exec, fishlim, sasl, xtray, updater, winsys and perl + python,

then I started removing them one by one. When I removed xtray - Hexchat stopped crashing. I didn't have xtray installed in Xchat-WDK - (in Hexchat I installed it by mistake (forgot to untick it in installer)).

I'm running HexChat 2.9.5a1 x86 and I'm getting the same issue. Short disconnects are fine, usually, but any network disconnection for more than maybe half a minute or more results in a crash.

I do not have xtray installed, but I do have sysinfo, perl, python, and updater.

@JapaMala Could you try without those plugins? I couldn't seem to reproduce this at all =\

I think this was resolved on IRC - it was probably perl crashing hexchat - JapaMala wasn't using bviktor's perl - which is required for 2.9.5 on windows.

Well do you still have the issue @Eustachy ?

Nope, after removing hextray it stopped crashing and it didn't happen for me ever since.

I've disabled Hextray's notifications on events "Killed" and "Disconnect". That fixed it for me.

Sorry if this is completely nonsense and noise, but you might be interested in the backtraces I captured running xchat into an endless loop when connecting to a new server. It sounds like it may be related to the underlying cause of this bug (and since I'd like to migrate to hexchat sooner than later and this is really hard to reproduce most of the time... ;)

@stefanct Whatever issue you are talking about it is not related to this issue nor has it ever been reported for HexChat afaik.

Why this still not fixed in 2016? What is the excuse?
