utiLITI 0.4.17 is being highly unresponsive

I am using LITI to make a platform-er for a class along with 2 other people, and I am having some really severe lag/freezing problems whenever I use utiLITI. I can load an existing map that one of my other team members made, but the frame rate is extremely low, ~5-7 fps. Doing just about anything other than looking at that one map seems to cause utiLITI to freeze while taking up most or all of the available CPU time on my computer. I can drag the window around, but that's about it. Other than that, it is totally unresponsive, and the only way I can kill it is by using the task manager. Things that trigger this behavior include importing a new map other than the one that automatically loads from the projects litidata file, attempting to import some (but not all) tile sets, and attempting to import spritesheets. I have so far attempted to import 2 different tilesets. One of them has 8 sprites and the other has 86. The smaller of the two did successfully import (at least I think it did, I don't see any actual evidence of this other than utiLITI not freezing), but the larger one just freezes utiLITI immediately.
Is it normal to have such massive performance issues? I am using an older laptop, but this seems a bit excessive. Am I doing something wrong? At this point it is pretty much unusable for me.

Chronographer Thanks for reporting this. Could you provide a bit more information on your machine please? What CPU do you have (speed and core count)? Could you maybe provide a sample map file so we could investigate the issue? Also: the ~~~~config.properties file would be great to have a look at.

So initially when I wrote this I was using a Thinkpad x61 running windows 7 64 bit with the following specs.
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo L7500 @1.6 GHz, 2 physical cores (no hyperthreading, 1 Logical core/physical)
RAM: 8 GB
running windows 7 64 bit on an SSD using SATA I
No GPU of any consequence
I am currently in the process of attempting to get it to work on a much more modern computer. Specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel i7 6700HQ @ 2.6 GHz, turbo boost up to 3.2 GHz, 4 physical cores, 8 threads
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M
running windows 10 on an m.2 SSD
I seem to be having similar issues when I attempt to import more than one tileset or importing a map. Attempting to import more than one tileset or importing a map will still totally freeze the window. After loading the game.liti file that other members on my team have already created, everything works fine, but the frame rate is still quite low (~ 8-15 fps, depending on how zoomed in I am)
What is the best way for me to provide a map file or the config.properties? Is there a preferred file host to use?

As of now, I actually have gotten it to work a lot better. Unfortunately, I can't tell you off the top of my head what, if anything, I am doing differently. Later on when I have some more spare time I will try to see if I cant replicate what was happening before so I can give you a more detailed description. In the meantime, below is the config.properties file as it was on October 16 (the closest commit we have to when I originally posted this. I'm pretty sure that a) we didn't change much, if anything in it between then and when I posted this and b) that I had experienced a similar or the same issue already at this point)

So a quick update on this. Shortly after I wrote that everything seems to be working fine, everything stopped working fine and I am now having the same issues I had originally. I do not think I changed anything or how I was doing anything. I have made a screen recording of the problem I am experiencing showing what i am doing to trigger it. This, along with the entire utiLITI folder I was using, is included in the zip file at the other end of this file host link. Ill also email you guys a copy of the file so you have long term access to it if you need/want that.

Hey there, first of all, I want to point out that due to the ~~~~UncaughtExceptionHandler, you can have a look at the ~~~~crash.txt file generated when a LITIengine application crashes (that includes the utiLITI editor).
It points you to the general direction where your errors may come from.
In your case, the game resource file cannot be read correctly, which might have something to do with your tilesets not being embedded properly. Try replacing paths to your tilesets with relative paths, and make sure that not only the .tsx files from the tileset, but also the referred image file containing the tiles are in the right place.
In your ~~~~game.litidata, the following tilesets are referenced but cannot be found:

Im also getting this issue whenever I try to create a new project. I navigate to the folder where I want to create the project, click "open" and it freezes. Also, how do you make file paths relative?

EDIT: It seems that I actually CAN create a new project, but attempting to do so in my project directory will freeze utiLITI. I can create a new project in the folder the utiLITI executable is located in just fine though...

what does the crash.txt contain after your utiLITI breaks?
tileset paths can be made relative by using the ~~~~dot notation. You can also ~~~~embed the tileset into the map (which I wouldn't recommend if you mean to collaborate with others) or just have it stored in the same directory as the map and then reference it with the filename only instead of a full path.
