It would be great if template variables were allowed in creating an alert. These template variables assist in quite a few specialized dashboards for database monitoring as well as other software types and users shouldn't have to rework there queries around whether or not the alerting feature will work with it, the alerting feature should work around the query and pick up whatever values are passed to it.
