Explore is intended to be a more ephemeral way to look at your data than dashboards. However, as users may use explore to share results with people that may need more context, or they themselves might want better formatting or more appropriate visualizations for what they're querying, Explore should have improved functionality to add units, select different visualizations, connecting null values, and other graph styling that may be useful. If you have recommendations on what kind of customized styling/formatting/etc in explore would be useful, please leave a note in the discussion and we will look at all recommendations as we think through this feature.
As a large part of explore is sharing, any saved feature should be in the URL so viewing an explore link can be consistent between people using it.

One of the main things that may become a problem is persisting these settings. Currently, everything is saved in the explore URL, and sharing that URL persists everything. If a user bookmarks that URL, they get to keep their Explore session, and if they send it to someone, that session looks the same to the recipient. With more settings and customizations, the bigger and more complicated that URL is. There are options, but a use case to think of is the combination of allowing anonymous users, and allowing anonymous users to edit, which can impact the scale to think of.
