Yes, I didn't add the requirement to assign same color to same value in different series, however but that would be definitely an improvement too. @torkelo do we want to merge both issues into #35945 and close this one? |

we can keep this one and close the other, but we can add to this one that it would be good to support unique colors across fields as well (a bit more tricky) |

We're in the process of moving Grafana feature requests to GitHub Discussions. This issue is being moved to Discussions or has been moved from our issues list, depending on where you're seeing this message. We hope to use the discussion thread to continue building use cases, and additional evidence based on engagement/voting, in order to help us prioritize this feature request later on down the road. As with all things Grafana, we value your input and participation in this project and appreciate your patience during this transitional period. Looking forward to the discussion! |

Hello, as you may have heard, we are transitioning away from using discussions to discuss feature requests. We are migrating this discussion to an issue and closing the discussion. The issue is #82979. Feel free to continue the discussion around this there. Thank you! |

What would you like to be added: a "Classic palette" which has colors assigned by value, like in other color schemes. Or, even better, assigning [pseudo-]unique values to each new value in the series instead of value percentage-based.
Why is this needed: in the new State timeline panel introduced in Grafana 8, choosing the palettes that assign colors by value makes more sense than selecting different colors for different series, since it allows us to visually differentiate the values.
Consider the difference between this panel representing a version history:
And this one:
The latter one is not perfect, but at least it's visually more distinguishable. It represents some issues however:
As a proof of concept, I tried this (this is my first contact with TypeScript :D)
And it rendered me pretty much what I was looking for:
And with more values:
(This looks like a Volkwagen Polo Harlequin)
So, do we want this to be added? And if yes, am I on the right path? Which side-effects have I missed (I see lots of methods related to color mode, and @torkelo mentioned possible issues when streaming data)
