In most cases it is far from obvious which squares are meant to be selected, especially if there are only a few pixels in a square, or an ambiguous label. Is a traffic light just the light or is it also the pole?

I am definitely human, and I pass this style about 20% of the time.

I passed that style 0% of the time and after about a week of failing and getting kicked to the "select all squares with fire hydrants / cars / bicycles / Sundar Pichai's Dumpster Fire of a Company" style, they've trained me to immediately hit reload whenever it tries to show me the style that never works, and keep hitting reload until it gives me the one that works most of the time (except when they think a van and a bus are the same).

It's been months since I've passed this one. I have to keep refreshing until I'm served one of the "select all images with" options. The other day I cracked and thought, I'm going to keep doing these "select all squares with" options until I pass, and I gave up after 20 minutes. I tried doing it quickly, doing it slowly, moving my cursor around hesitantly, selecting squares even if there was only a couple pixels, ignoring those...all of it. None of them ever, ever worked. Since I'm on a VPN, I've probably been served these well north of a thousand times recently, and I've passed Z-E-R-O of them.
This captcha has always been horrible, but the trick always seemed to be that, if you moved the cursor around like you were a sleep-deprived centenarian, you could pass. But that is evidently no longer the case.
