Lots of people including me are calling out for this to be fixed, but the original issue is closed and is being ignored. I'm opening this issue in the hope that somebody will take note.

See issue #295

(I fully expect this issue to be closed quickly, but hopefully the other issue is reopened before this is closed.)
Thanks.

Maybe a workaround could be using scale in caption in "figure":

.. figure:: /img/img.JPG
:scale: 50 %
:align: center
:alt: alternate text
:figclass: align-center

a description for img

This repository is for the github-markup gem, a library which GitHub.com uses to choose a markup processor based on the type of the input data. All questions not related specifically to this gem should go to our support team. (Put another way: if a PR to this repo can't fix it, it doesn't belong here.)

I understand this is something that people want, but opening an issue here won't make that happen. People who work on the code that pertains to your query do not, in general, watch this repository. (I do because I maintain this gem.) To get it in front of their eyes, you'll need to go contact support so they can triage and prioritise it along with other requests.

Thanks for your understanding.

@kivikakk, in that case it would be handy if this was mentioned on the readme for this repo. Especially since clicking on your link says "Need help with the github/markup project?
You should get in contact with @github. For example, you could open an issue on the repository". I would have liked to have known this earlier.

I have now reported this through the recommended channel and had a response saying this request is logged. :)

@danieljabailey and anyone else interested -- markdown width and height attributes are now permitted for images in RST files.
