plotting labels on axes causes a pause and slowdown for lots of variables. #107

maybe don't draw the labels if number of variables is more than X, or
have a selection of variables who's names are drawn.
perhaps more than 5 is too many to see, maybe only the 5 biggest for any projection, and more than a fixed length which would be needed if there are a lot of variables.
