Using add_raster with folium backend results in an internal type error

import geemap.foliumap as geemap
m = geemap.Map(tiles="CartoDB.DarkMatter")
m.add_raster("totGap.tif", colormap="OrRd"

When running the above code I run into an error that says Cannot add an object of type FoliumTileLayer to the map.
But this doesn't make sense because that object is generated internally by the add_raster code and then supplied to the add_layer function.
