Yay, thanks Twitch. That's all I'll write here. Oh, and it'll probably be a while until I get that fixed. It also makes it so you can no longer use the extension without a Twitch account. Neat, right?

So, what's the workaround with a Twitch account? I don't see the option to enter my credentials.

The workaround that lets you use a Twitch account will require an extension update.

Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up.

For anyone coming across this now that the 24h outage window is over: I expect Twitch updates to be broken completely starting May 11th. I don't know what time zone, whatever Twitch feels like is the May 11th they want to do.

I'll carry this over from the discourse support thread:

  • Other extensions notifying about Twitch streams may keep working, depending on the API version they use and/or if they require you to authenticate with your Twitch account. Note that only extensions requiring authentication with a Twitch account are likely to keep working past the end of the year.
  • I will post to this issue once a version with Twitch working again was released, so if you'd like to keep up with the extension but uninstall it in the mean time, subscribe this issue. Note that uninstalling the extension may lead to losing your channel list. You can of course export it using the export feature and you will be able to import it again even after Twitch is fixed.
  • An alternative would be to keep the extension installed but remove the icon from your toolbar while the extension is not working. That way you can still get a tab notifying you of the update once it's working again (if you have update information enabled)

Ahh, I see why it wasn't working now. I was getting really confused until I finally went and looked at the discourse thread adn here.

Twitch is really annoying since it requires you to have a Twitch window open to get notifications.. and Twitch is one of the heaviest, most awfully CPU intensive overheads to leave idle, even on the main or a light page. Only Youtube is comparable.

Just tossing a hat in that this is a great extension and I hope to see this fixed, even if it requires the workaround! Thanks for it in general, it worked extremely well till then.

It made me sad to read this. Since I use your extension everyday, I figured out a dirty way to temporarily fix it and made a Step-by-Step Manual.

I understand now, why it is not easy to adapt to Twitch's changes. Thank you for providing and maintaining such an excellent extension!
