Panini Alternatives? #12273

There is a v2 branch in Panini that @gakimball put a lot of work into. It's been a long time since he made it. I spent some time the other night trying to figure out the status of it's codebase. @gakimball, do you have much recollection about it? |

I vote for improvements to Panini as that is what I'm using on a couple of our sites and hope to implement on more of our sites if it does get improved and updated. |

It looks like it's will stick around. I was not able to find anything quite like it. Everything else out there is quite complex. Panini is simple. |

We've been using Panini in all projects for years. It would be awesome to have improvements and updates! |

I have been playing around with ideas today. I love the simplicity of Panini. But I dislike issues with node dependencies. It's one of the biggest pains ever. What if Panini was not tied to node? Panini could be redone in PHP with a fraction of the dependencies and a much smaller code base. It would even provide us more functionality. Just because the source would be built with PHP, it does not affect the end product. You will not be required to use PHP on your sites. It will still generate a static site. Your JS and CSS/SCSS setup would still be the same process. If I do decide to build this, I honestly would probably build it as a separate project with a new name. I would love to hear feedback on this. Again, I want to stress that you do not need to know anything about PHP. Panini (or whatever it's named) would behave the same with only some minor syntax updates. |

I am trying to reduce the amount of software that we need to maintain. Panini is a very simple site builder. After quite a bit of searching, I cannot really find anything else like it. I am pretty surprised. Anyone else have ideas?
If there really aren't any decent well maintained alternative, I will be happy to keep improving Panini.
