How to set default value for dropdown field in Admin UI

Hi,
I am missing something here... Could somebody help?

Standard dropdown field - data from the database, it works.

				$preteky = e107::getDb()->retrieve('race', '*', TRUE, TRUE);

				$tmp[0] = "---";
				foreach ($preteky as $pretek)
				{
					$tmp[$pretek['race_id']] = $pretek['race_name'];
				}

				$this->fields['race_racer_race_id']['writeParms']['optArray'] = $tmp;

Result:

<option value="0">---</option>
<option value="1">Testovací pretek 2023</option>
<option value="2">Test Neaktualneho Preteku</option>

Now, in preference is the default value set - value 1 -
This is not working:

$dp = e107::pref('casomiera', 'pretek');
$this->fields['race_racer_race_id']['writeParms']['default'] = $dp;

Result:

<option value="">1</option>
<option value="0">---</option>
<option value="1">Testovací pretek 2023</option>
<option value="2">Test Neaktualneho Preteku</option>

What I am doing wrong way?

$this->fields['race_racer_race_id']['writeParms']['default'] = adds a default <option></option> for the dropdown, not a value selected by default. That is because ['writeParms'] is used to generate additional HTML parameters for the form field element.

$this->fields['race_racer_race_id']['writeParms']['default'] = 'blank'; (`<option value=""></option>`)

I have yet to find a simple e107 PHP based example to alter the data loaded into the form to set a default value for a dropdown. Instead, I typically use jQuery to check and change the simple ones if needed.
