Add a benchmark

It would be nice to improve performance of transliteration. Currently, it is the hottest function call in my flame chart along with some cryptographic functions.

The first step before making any changes would be to add some benchmarks to measure the improvement as changes are made.

Can you please share some of your tests? Also which functions do you see are called the most?
