Version 4.0 Planning

v3.0 was released just under a week ago. Which means it's time to start planning v4!

Overview

Unlike previous major Dynamoose versions, I don't anticipate v4 being very large at all.

Goals

• Define LTS/release plan
  • It's be cool if Dynamoose releases started coordinating with AWS Lambda Runtime Deprecations. The goal is for v4 to be the first release to do that.
  • We also need to figure out how long Dynamoose versions will receive bug fixes/security fixes for
• Define alpha/beta release structure
  • alpha means unstable (can include breaking changes), but ready to be used for testing
  • beta means only bug fixes/feature improvements
• [BUG] Inconsistent items are generated when an item is created and when an item is fetched from the database #1479

There will likely be more items included in v4, but this is the current goals we have set. It is likely this will change overtime.

Timeline

• Development Starts - Now
• Beta Release - November 14th 2022
• Final Release - December 14th 2022

Keep in mind, this timeline is just an estimate.

Create a new issue and include v4.0 right after the ] in the issue title. Make it clear it's a proposal for v4.0, and I will add it to this issue Goals section above. Your issue you create is where discussion will occur about the proposal.
