Getting Subscription Updates via custom websocket design

Hello,

So I have a custom setup in relation to using graphjin.

I initialise the library and use my own websocket and gin framework for access to the library. Designed like that intentionally.

The question is however, is it possible to access the subscriptions layer perhaps for example using a channel to be able to get messages when an update occurs for example and then I can feed that through back to the user with my own implementation?

I might've missed something if it's already documented. But any input would be greatly appreciated.

Funny you mentioned this as today I was looking to swap out the websocket lib to one that supports wasm.

What was your use case ? Curious if there was overlap .

the other web socket libs don’t work with wasm.

The graphql then uses web socket as the transport.

In terms of graphql clients I am currently using the khan one but it’s not perfect as so I probably need to work on that .

the other cool thing with gioui is that the desktop is pure golang so you can debug easily from your frontend all the way to your backend .

So what are the pros and cons of switching out from the gorilla websockets lib we currently use https://github.com/gorilla/websocket I'm not against doing this if it does not hurt current users and has some more advantages.

For people building clients in golang, it’s great cause I can build clients in golang to talk to golang backends. Types can be reused on both sides , etc.

For people not using golang clients, the other thing is that you can compile the golang client code to WASM ( for web ) or Native ( for mobile or desktop ).
The golang client code does all the networking, caching, security and other standard things, allowing the high level client code ( JS, java, c#, whatever ) do whatever logic and graphQL calls it wants.

GIOUI is able to do this compilation, and its explained here: https://gioui.org/doc/integrate

Golang client using a golang server

Its a gioui golang client and a standard golang server.
It does not use graphql, but does use https://github.com/nhooyr/websocket to show the golang server and golang client communicating.
The client is compiled to wasm ( for web ) and native ( for Desktop and Mobile).
For example on desktop you can run the client with just "go run ."
For compiling to Web or Mobile you use this: https://github.com/gioui/gio/tree/main/cmd/gogio

I have not used this.

Improbable-eng replaced envoy btw, and can be imported into your golang server itself.
Servers are golang based. Client are expected to be javascript.
It also works with flutter clients, as i have used it, and also for golang clients using a slightly modified generator.
