How to write image-id with docker compose build

How to write image-id with docker compose build, similar to docker build --iidfile.

There is docker buildx bake --metadata-file ./metadata.json but there might be some differences between docker compose build and docker builx bake that you might have to take into account.

My case is more of build, run and maybe do other things with the image. (which docker compose fits well)
As I understand bake command cannot be used to run images on its own.
Did you mean something like, use the x-bake extension in compose and specify the metadata file.

Compose could run with any image that's already built, but, on its own it doesn't offer such a "tracking" feature of what it builds.
I just meant that bake is the closest thing.
