Setting global environment variables for interpolation in compose.yaml

I'd like to have multiple compose files in a single directory and have an .env file for each of them. However, currently, they all read the same file seemingly without an option to override. Is there one?

Alternatively, it seems I can just create a dummy compose.yaml which just calls include and sets env_file that way, but is there another way?

You can use the --env-file option to tell compose which file, is that what you're looking for?

docker compose --env-file fileA.env --file fileA.yaml up
