Way to control grid of diagrams

It would be nice to have a way to control the arrangement of diagrams in a way consistent with the elements of a row or a column.

What comes to mind is CSS libs that do similar http://materializecss.com/grid.html

Not only having differing spans as many grid systems emphasize, but also consistent control such that one column may be left justified, another center, another right justified, and so on.
