Knowing I ❤️ you and the work, but what's in it for me and the users i am supporting? Tried going down the big tent JEP route before, couple years back, and couldn't get agreement on anything.

Thanks and likewise ❤️!

but what's in it for me and the users i am supporting?

Good question, let's try to dissect it:

What do you lose if you move to the new org?

  • People already know where you are (although moving the repo should not be super disruptive)
  • You are no longer a totally different approach to solving the problem (because you live next to another "competitor").
  • And I am probably missing some others that I invite you to list 😉.

What do you win if you move to the new org?

  • We join forces to push on new ideas

Tried going down the big tent JEP route before, couple years back, and couldn't get agreement on anything.

If we are more people (under an org) pushing together, we may reach those agreements...

  • We maintain complete independence on the implementation side (your repo, your playground) but the commonplace offers a soil to nurture discussions that benefit any implementation of the idea of the slides in Jupyter (and the result of those discussions can mature into JEP or/and other sorts of agreements).
  • People who love the Jupyter slides concept will have a known and central place to test and play with different alternatives, which may result eventually in one favorite OR the continuous existence of different flavors adapted to different publics.
  • We benefit ourselves from parallel and intermixed contributions.
  • We have a "natural" place to keep experimenting with the Jupyter slides idea, I am pretty sure we (and others) might have some other ideas/tools/implementations that can be discussed and tried inside the organization (no threshold to start experimenting).

I should have created a RISE organization some time ago... but instead of doing that now and because the Jupyter slides concept goes beyond RISE, I thought we should create an org to host all these projects interested in the same topic!

Btw, this proposal is just a thin layer on top of the existing repos... I do not want to have a super org structure, we do not need that for now (maybe in the future if things grow enough), so I foresee this organization as a place to host our projects and have nice discussions to benefit everyone involved (that's all for now).

Hope this makes sense and open to further thoughts from you!!
