Remarkable seems to have decided to drop some useful former functions of the physical rm1-buttons (or changed the behavior):

  • a long press of the left/right button used to jump to the first/last page of the notebook. This seems to be gone.
  • a press on the right button while being on the last page used to add a new page (as long as the current page is not empty). This seems to be gone.
  • when pressing the middle button (or power button) to resume from suspend we now end up in the "document explorer" view instead of the page previously shown (sometimes even in the root folder). This is really annoying. Before it was just a "wake up". (plus: it's especially annoying as I replaced the suspend screen with a 95% transparent image, that allowed to read the content of the current page, even while suspended -- magic of epaper ... ;-) ...)

Do you think it would be possible to restore these functions with a future update of the hacks?

Thanks for considering!

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed the middle button to resume (vs. home screen) change. This is a pain in the neck, as I work in appointments all day. Needing to navigate back to a document in the middle of a meeting to 20x a day is frustrating.

Hoping with you that this functionality can be restored via hack. @dstango, have you sent these suggestions to reMarkable's formal support channel as well? I'm going to do so...more voices than less are better!

@Tridens92 thanks for joining in :-). I haven't sent the issue to rm support yet, but you're absolutely right: I should!

I just sent a support request. How about you, @Tridens92 ? ;-)

Here's remarkable's response (that was quick this time!):

In regard to your first and second concerns, may I kindly ask you to please recreate the issue in a video so we can take a closer look?
A way to send a video is to use either WeTransfer or Dropbox and kindly provide us with a link when this is available.

However, to your third concern, if you want your document to remain open while your device is in sleep mode, you can turn off "sync before sleep" by going to Settings > Storage. Note that if you do so, your document will not sync when you put your device to sleep.

Deactivating the sync is actually working :-), so that's good.

Asking for a video is annoying (what is not to understand in my description?), but I might even send them one.

Thanks for update, @dstango. I'll be sending out my request today. FYI, I don't have a "sync before sleep" option. I'm running firmware 2.15.1.1189. Are you running something different that would provide that option? Only options I have on storage page are USB Web interface and Check cloud sync.

@Tridens92: That option seems to be new with firmware 3. Unfortunately I updated to version 3 by accident, but I'm stuck with it, as I needed to edit some notebooks, so I can't revert without losing access ...

ah, that explains it. I'm hanging on with 2.15.x because I can't live without the hacks, and have no need nor desire for the extended pages. Hoping they make the longer pages optional / toggleable.

FYI, I sent on my request to rM today for those button features to be restored. Here's to hope! :)

yeah, I'm missing the hacks very much, and don't need endless pages either! Yet, I'm stuck :-(. Hopefully the hacks will make it to firmware 3 ...

I especially asked them to forward the request to their team, but I somewhat doubt they will prioritize it highly :-(.
