While debugging #2754, I ran with NCLOGLEVEL_ERROR, and noticed the following:

amata_next_numeric:422:matchstart didn't match prefix (s f)
amata_next_kleene:392:matchstart didn't match prefix (r vs f)
palette_cb:1486:empty palette string

I don't think this used to happen?
