Solved on macOS Ventura 13.4 after Updating MacFuse to Version 4.5.0

Same, I am experiencing this issue with Sonoma 14.0, macFUSE 4.7.1, cryptomator 1.12.3
This is after installing macFUSE because fuse-t was not working due to another error.

I have not tested it myself. But this is a fuse that does not use a kext:

The issue is with fuse-t, not macFUSE. Creating a new archive, locking, and unlocking creates problems for me using fuse-t and webdav. I installed macFUSE and it worked fine. For me having fuse-t installed at all caused it to not work, but having solely the macFUSE kext and not fuse-t worked and has continued to work fine.

On macOS 13.4.1 and MacFuse 4.5.0 but still encountering this error.

This message appeared along with a "Open System Preferences" button:

The system extension required for mounting macFUSE volumes could not be loaded.

Please open the Security & Privacy System Preferences pane, go to the General preferences and allow loading system software from developer "Benjamin Fleischer". A restart might be required before the system extension can be loaded.

Then try mounting the volume again.

Clicked on the button to reveal the Privacy & Security section in System Settings. But the section does not have the "General preferences" stated in the instructions.

Any idea?

Having done as suggested there ( the popup mentioned in 14 wasn't there) and restarted you have to go settings, privacy&security again. There will be a new section called "things that require your attention" or something. Click and enable the blocked extentions. then you have to enter your password again and restart. (the new section mentioned won't be available anymore in settings).

Just scroll down. There is a Privacy heading, then a Security heading. It is under security.

I just experienced this issue after my USB drive randomly ejected itself and then Cryptomator crashed. macOS 11.7.1. The folder I had oppened was still under /Volumes and I had to umount /Volumes/folder before I could unlock it again.

the current replies are a little misleading.
with Sonomas new security system, kernel enhancements need to be activated as well. so what you would need to do is:

• update cryptomator
• upgrade macfuse (brew upgrade)
• open the "Security & Privacy System Preferences" as described in the popup, allow whatever program is mentioned as needing extended permissions (doesn't have to be Cryptomator, for me it showed "OBS")
  • after enabling, it shows a tutorial on how to activate the extended kernel privileges
    • roughly summarised shutting down the Mac, starting it & then holding the power key until it boots into recovery, after that select the kernel security from the header-bar

I'm still experiencing this issue - even with the latest MacFuse (4.5.0) and the latest Cryptomator (1.11.0). I have also enabled the extended Kernel Privileges and no program is mentioned anymore in System Preferences in the Security & Privacy pane. Any ideas?

Doesn't work on macOS Sonoma 14.2, using macFUSE 4.5.0.

I was stuck on this for a few minutes, but things are working for me with:

• macOS Sonoma 14.4.1
• Cryptomator 1.12.3
• macFUSE 4.6.1

After installing these versions of the software and then trying to open my drive, the "allow software from whatever" thing popped up as expected in "System Preferences" -> "Privacy & Security", I had to restart my machine, and then Cryptomator was back to working.
