Two things though: The new design is missing two pieces of information: Users won't know chat messages only live for 30 minutes and that there is a max. character count.

@cbalster So far I always saw quite short messages. It has the taste of an edgewise to me. Would skip the count for simplicity.

Regarding the time, does it makes sense to increase the lifespan to 2-3h to cover the main time of a Critical Mass? @stephanlindauer @headione

yea i agree. i think the reasoning before was that everything should be anonymous and ephemeral.
but 3 hours still counts as ephemeral, i guess. ;)
