Any reason for not including "Svalbard and Jan Mayen" (country code SJ)?

I understand that it is basically part of Norway, but ISO-3166 does recognize it separately. Is there any reason to not have this dataset use the ISO-3166 info as it's official basis?

Hey @dlong500, great question! It can be a little slippery. The reason I created this repo way back when was because no such thing existed at the time. The goal was a practical list of country-region data that I could use in forms. I didn't realize it was such a political issue: the problem with the ISO standard is it's a list of internationally recognized countries, which may not cover countries that we expect to see.

But to answer you question, no - no reason for not including Svalbard + San Mayen. If you can provide a link to the data set I'm happy to get that imported.

Thx!

I didn't actually do an in-depth comparison of the data with the ISO standard, but simply saw it contained 248 country codes versus 249 that are in the ISO dataset. Are you aware of other differences beyond the missing "Svalbard and Jan Mayen"? I don't have any political issue with anything--just curious about the data.

Nice, thanks for the info. Possibly just outdated data? I think originally it was based on that dataset so I'm not sure why they'd be missing.
