Description

I propose to remove the words 'Poll' and 'Polls' from the the admin panel as well as the user view and replace it with the words 'Voting' and 'Votings'.

Why is this needed

In both the Admin panel and the User view the words 'voting' and 'poll' are used interchangably which is inconsistent and confusing. 'Voting' is the most straightforward of the two and already the official menu item name anyway.

Proposed changes:

Admin panel:

  • In the main admin menu, 'Polls' can be renamed as 'Voting'

  • Inside the Polls menu item, 'List of polls' can be renamed as 'List of votings'

  • Inside the Polls menu item, the 'Create poll' button can be renamed as 'Create voting'

  • Inside the Polls menu item, the 'Polls description' button can be renamed as 'Voting description'

  • On the 'Create poll' page, 'New poll' can be renamed 'New voting'

  • On the 'Create poll' page, the 'Create poll' button can be renamed 'Create voting'

  • On the 'Polls description' page, 'Polls description' can be renamed 'Voting description'

  • In the Voting Booths' submenu, the 'Poll Officer' menu item can be renamed as 'Voting Officer'

  • On the 'Poll Officers' page, Poll officers (two times in text) can be renamed as 'Voting officers'

  • On the 'Booths Assignments' page, 'List of polls' can be renamed as 'List of votings'

User view:

  • On the 'Voting' page, the 'Participate in this poll' button (that each voting automatically gets) can be renamed as 'Participate in this voting'.

@Senen @javierm @taitus I am hoping that one of you guys can help me transform this Issue into a proper PR because I am unfortunately not (yet) able to do that.. 😌 Thanks lots!!

Hi, @jensconsul 😄.

Sorry for the late reply 🙏.

You can edit most of these texts under config/locales/en/admin.yml, although in some cases it might be hard to find exactly which text goes where 😌.

Note that renaming "polls" to "voting" might be confusing as well because we use "voting" in other contexts, like voting for proposals, or the final voting phase in participatory budgets 🤔.

By the way, since I'm not a native English speaker, have we confirmed with native English speakers that using "voting" in this context is equivalent to using "poll"?

Hey @javierm !

And sorry for mine! 😌

I actually checked with a native English speaker-friend (who is a professional translator) some time ago and he saw no problem calling it voting. However he did see a problem using voting as a noun, which means that many of my suggestions would be in fact senseless to process.

However, I would still:

  1. replace 'Polls' with 'Voting' in the main admin menu because the feature is in fact called Voting (as apparent in the demo's main menu),
  2. replace the 'Poll Officer' with 'Voting Officer' in the Voting Booths' submenu, because it sounds more clear and official,
  3. and relatedly, replace 'Poll officers' (two times in text) with 'Voting officers' on the 'Poll Officers' page.

Hope this makes sense!

P.s.: this is Jens but somehow auto-logged in with Esther's old account I think..
