Description

The current pairing tool, while being useful in the last workshops, is still a single page app prototype and has some limitations, like not being able to maintain state and/or add other informations useful for the organisers when preparing the pairs.

Also any kind of improvement, most likely will require a backend, and this will require some resources and accounts, this should not be managed/owned by any individual, regardless being organisers, but this should belong to Codebar.

Scope

  • Use codebar github repos and codebar owned accounts to host the application
  • Setup a backlog to track properly new feature requests
  • Update documentation (if needed)

@saljuama will speak with @KimberleyCook to see if the pairing tool can be moved to a codebar owned account and if further features need to be added.

@saljuama moved the pairing tool to codebar repo, and opened a project to track requests, feedback and other stuff
will continue iterating to make it part of the codebar ecosystem

TODO: add an open source license, reuse same as codebar website MIT

@saljuama added the "auto assign" button. He has also been working on/thinking about other improvements such as marking new people, allowing for "touch" event (not only mouse event), inverting group order for drag and drop usability, etc. And that´s great! and it works really well.
Maybe we can do some "pair" programming (with however many people want to join :) )

This is the link to the tool

we might organize a session to explore it during the summer break.

It works well for now, If anything comes up and some improvements are needed there is the trello board we can use to note it and let @saljuama know. However, for now, it works really well.
One of the current limitations is touch screen, but we can look at it later on.
If it comes up, we can do a chill session and Salva can explain what he did so we can all work on it.

No updates and that's still ok :-) we will prioritize it when we get more people and in-person workshops

Now that we are thinking about going back to in person, it would be good to know if it´s worth to keep working on this and how many people will be comming to the workshops to see if it´s worth it. If it is we can invest time on it.
Let´s try to find some time to meet and @saljuama can show us the code a bit so we can start to play around with it.

We will need to test the paring tool for a few more session to see what needs to be added/improved.

We have used it in some in person workshops and so far so good but some improvements are always welcome. We can test it a bit more in september and see what else can be developed.
One thing we have noticed for now, is that when attendence is high and the first slots are complete, you cannot drag + scroll down the page at the same time. If you do scroll down the page, then you cannot see the students/coaches. That might be a helpfull improvement for the future to be added to the backlog.

We propose to meet next Thursday 6 of October to discuss next steps regarding this tool because we know there are several people interested in kicking it off again. We will meet at Klara's house or we can make it virtual for the people that are not physically in Barcelona.

@ancagabriela y @Klarala13 had a look at it and propose to use during the workshop if a student has no project.

when we grow back to a respectable number of student and coache we could focus back on it.

@saljuama @Klarala13 @ancagabriela @amaliacardenas will meet to test it out on the 22nd 17:30.

For now it works as it is, and we would like to improve it at some point.
Salva will unlock the secret drag and drop feature.
Amalia will get a tablet for her birthday and will let us know how great it works (and the tool as well)

@colmanfranco has a tablet and test the drag-and-drop feature @amaliacardenas by the end of the month

No updates for now and that´s ok.

No updates for now and that´s ok. But @fridavbg does not like the codebar.io event page checkboxe´s and she already did an issue to fix that.

@Klarala13

For now, no one has complained about how it works, so it´s ok that there is no updates :)
