Why?

  • The name doesn't say much about what cobalt does
  • The upcoming version is a major departure (e.g. liquid being opt-in)

Requirements

Summary of proposals

  • broca (speech center of the brain)
  • cai / cailun: from Cai Lun, the guy who invented paper, we can use only cai, his surname

  • antimoine: french for antimony, one element of the metal used by Gutenberg in his press. English word taken by another Rust project which seems abandonned (no activity since 2017). Binary could use the element symbol from the periodic element table sb to be shorter. This is the name of my cobalt's fork but I agree to abandonned it if wanted :)
  • amate: some kind of paper (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_paper)
  • cailun: from Cai Lun, the guy who invented paper, we can use only cai, his surname
  • morus: or more commonly known as "mulberry", it's a component of the paper made by Cai Lun

I don't see the problem with cobalt. No one knows the meaning behind your suggestions either and they don't have much to do with Cobalt.

I'm less concerned about the name meaning but I understand others having that concern. As I'm re-architecting cobalt, I'm considering if the changes I plan to make are big enough that it would help to have a new name.

At least, the suggestions have some meaning if you care to search for it :)

I used to want to make a site generator myself for a while and call it site_ex_machina. Quite a different direction than the other names suggested here, but if you like it, well, I don't claim copyright on it or anything, and last time I checked it, it wasn't taken by anything else.
