Ability to merge parallel imported ways

Routes in Open Street Map are relations placed on ways, with may be mapped where there are dual carriageways or multi-track train routes. However, these paths are typically collapsed wherever possible on transit maps to avoid crowding/redundancy. It would be useful to have a way to do this within the city lines web application

(I understand implementing this might be tricky - in opening these feature requests I do not expect them to be resolved quickly. I am just making a note for the purpose of remembering it. I may try and fork the project and implement them when I have more free time in the future.)
