I use Compton on Debian with i3 as my window manager and Konsole as my terminal emulator. Without any compositing, when opening/closing terminals or switching workspaces or repositioning windows I experience white flashes and flickering in windows. I have yet to find a collection of options that completely eliminate all flickering. When using xterm and urxvt, I can achieve a flicker-free workspace. What settings am I supposed to use so that Konsole behaves as well as xterm and urxvt do?

@FlyingBlanket I'm trying to figure out flickering that occurs on my own machine to see if it matches up with any existing bug reports. What is the backend set to ("glx" or "xrender") and what graphics do you have (nVidia, AMD/ATI, Intel...)?

Changing the backend to xrender fixed the flickering for me.

I have this same issue running the default compton config in regolith. I'm running an Nvidia GTX 1080 with nvidia driver 435.21. I switched to xrender and that fixed my issue. This seems to happen on all of my nvidia workstation which doesn't surprise me at all.

Xrender works but slow and I can see the horizontal update lines :(
