If I install to internal storage, will the chromeos kernel get updated in the future?

As far as I understand, this project "removes" the kernel from the iso and instead uses the chromeos kernel when booted. If I install to the internal storage, it will use the installed chromeos kernel(right?) If so, will the kernel get updated when google releases a new update to it? Or will I have to somehow manually update it?

It actually uses a new version of the Chromeos kernel. When you install to the internal drive, it replaces the Google version with the new one.

So I guess it'll update in the future too, if its already using a non local kernel?

It doesn’t do anything with the stock kernel. We generate an ISO from scratch. The stock Ubuntu/Casper one would to take too much work to get booting on Depthcharge.

ChromeOS’s kernel is outdated on most devices and it doesn’t have enough modules to boot a normal Linux distribution. We just build from the same tree the new ChromeOS kernel is from.

The kernel isn’t embedded into the bootloader - if you removed the internal storage of a Chromebook, it only knows how to do recovery mode.

Updating the kernel on a current install should work with updatekernel-on-emmc (or smth like that).
