The Dream:
I would love to see a full ER Diagram tool or some sort of visualization within Beekeeper Studio but I understand that it may be quite a tough task to implement.
Realistic alternative
There is however, a DSL called DBML that allows users to visualize and document their databases. I wonder if it may be more feasible to implement a way to output DBML from Beekeeper Studio.
Existing implementations
DB Diagrams (related) is a website that allows you to visualize ER diagrams of your tables by using DBML. DBML however is used in a few platforms to enable visualization not just DbDiagrams.io .
Possible usage within Beekeeper Studio
DbDiagrams.io also has functionality to convert mysql or postgresql dumps into dbml, as well as to export a
.sql
file for tables creation. This conversion tool would be very useful in Beekeeper Studio as it can allow users to either markup their tables using DBML or create them in a separate visualization tool, and import the DBML to compile SQL statements for creating tables.
Conversely, if users already have databases with tables that they view through Beekeeper Studio, they can generate DBML for viewing ER diagrams, and generating docs using another program.
