The combination of regular "update available" notifications to the console and a balena update command that automatically downloaded and executed the correct installer (or automatically unzipped the standalone zip package) would be a significant usability improvement on the current CLI update story.

Consider also whether the @oclif/plugin-update solution would be helpful: https://oclif.io/docs/plugins

Re "update available" notifications, revisit the existing usage of update-notifier (connects-to #1309, #693).
