Are there any plans to add a server mode (like e.g. in fluidsynth) that allows to access some functions in headless mode? I could make use of it to change midi cc assignments while running, get the name of the current preset or to press the random button (if that is not accessible through midi cc) ;)
Or maybe this is all covered when run as lv2 plugin?

Hi @kjyv that's not something that was on my radar, but sounds like it could make the headless mode more useful.

Would allowing the GUI to remotely control another amsynth instance over the network be better than a text-mode interface?

Assigning MIDI CCs, getting the name of the current preset or access to the random button are not available in the LV2 plugin at the moment...

I'm personally not interested in a remote GUI capability, although the two features could probably be joined within a text telnet interface, which is easier to use from other programs anyway than e.g. readline. My goal is to use amsynth without the GUI (very small screen on Raspberry Pi) and just control a few things I can't map to my midi keyboard.
