This is a place to discuss changing the way the site lays out information and functionality.

I have a few possible ideas. Right now, the bits we haven't fit in properly yet are:

  • Education representatives/info/contacts
  • Education articles
  • Services - opening times, contact details, descriptions
  • Service subsystems - like a future housing thing
  • SUSU Training courses

We could stick with what we've got and wait for the user needs to present themselves, but with this uncategorised information, it would be good to have somewhere to put it. I have a few possible ways to resolve this:

  1. Keep the Services tab. The Help section shifts focus to help articles, both about 'life' and education, and we keep course reps, and similar functionality under help. Services becomes a place for opening times of the Safety bus, Advice Centre, etc, a place for future functionality like an online property directory, and also a place for the SUSU training courses.
  2. Scrap the Services tab and make it "Education". Put the services details under Help, and move the course reps stuff to Education. Articles about education can also go under this section, as can SUSU training, as it's a form of education, even if its not a university provided one. Help ends up being live chat, service opening times (some might be re-categorised to Places) and help specific articles.
  3. SUSU Training courses go under Activities... might justify the name "activities" a bit more, along with RAG which probably also belongs under there. An alternative name might be "Student Life"?

It might be a good idea to mock a few of these up, even just on paper, and put them in front of some people to gauge reactions.

These aren't particularly well thought out ideas yet, so revisions and alternatives are welcome.
