ANTH 641 Week 8 - (Re)analysis of Archaeological Data with Stats

We will conduct a very basic introduction to archaeological statistical analysis using R. This is by no means an end point for either stats in archaeology OR R. You'll explore some of the possibilities for analysis using R with archaeological data, but as you progress in your research you'll need to explore more. If you have no background in stats, it may be helpful to look through the documentation in this repo. Even if you have a background, you may need a refresher.

This week's assignments take place in RStudio. You can either run RStudio on your own computer (you can download it here) or you can run it in your browser with binder.

Before you get started on the assignments, make sure to fork this repo so that you can upload and edit files.

There are two exercises this week. The first exercise is completed by following instructions on a Rscript file found in this repo (ANTH 641 - Week8_1) and uses data from The "archdata" package was created by David L. Carlson and Georg Roth to accompany "Quantitative Methods in Archaeology Using R" by David L. Carlson (2017). The second exercise includes instructions in a .md file also in this repo and shows you how to gather data from Open Context and manipulate it in R.

Before you get started create a new .md file called "ANTH 641_Week 8_YOURNAME" which will act as your notes for your activities - the exercises will ask you at various times to write out your impressions or findings in this file.

Working with RStudio on your desktop

If you are using RStudio on your own machine make sure to download ANTH 641 - Week8_1 from Canvas and place it into the directory you'll be using. Remember to set up your working directory in RStudio so you can access this file and have a central place to store your files.

Working with RStudio through binder

Once you've forked this repo, set up your own binder using your new GitHub repo and replace the link below:
