Having the same problem here, and when I re-run, I get a different error.

So, the script is seeing a TOC, but I am not, unless I use --no-write, in which case the TOC does get spit out to the terminal window. :)
I am on:
Apple M1 Pro running 13.4.1 (c) (22F770820d)
Bear Version 2.0.7 (11876)
Python 3.11.5
markdown_toc-1.2.6
six-1.16.0
pip-23.2.1
Re-created my python symlink to make sure that it was using the p3 I installed with homebrew rather than the p2 that came with my mac's dev tools... Still no go. I am excited about this script - can I help somehow? Thank you for all your hard work!
