Current default merge setting on all repositories is Squash/Merge. While this is very helpful in cases where unintended commits are present and can/should be squashed, there are cases where a contributor will want to retain their commits and would not want the committer that is reviewing and merging it to squash. See notes on this discussion in Jan 18th community call minutes.
This issue is to review the active repositories (all who have current settings of squash/merge) and to discuss if any should be changed, so that committers can merge without squashing if/when requested by contributors. In the Jan 18th PMC mtg, we mentioned that the installer repo default setting could be updated immediately. The remaining review could wait until the rollout of EF's new approach to Github administration that will allow us to have better visibility as to what the current settings are.
We can focus on the most active repositories under the Adoptium top-level project are as follows:
