I'm not a web developer, so I can't help much here :-(

Yes, you can. If you have time to Skype this weekend, we could bang it out
in like 3 hrs. We could code for 90 minutes, take a break (like 30 mins) and
then code for another 90 mins. I'll share my screen w you over skype. I
could drive most of the time. You could follow along, keep us focused,
contribute to design decisions, algorithms, etc., and learn some Node.js &
coffee script along the way. Plus, half of it is client-side (Objective-C)
stuff.

Sounds interesting to me. PM me with your Skype ID and I'll give you a call.

Why don't we use an already established solution? Like: http://github.com/lukeredpath/libPusher (http://pusherapp.com)

Nice... looks good... I already have an implementation, but this is also
another option to consider... Thanks!

Alright, a solution which runs on the own server would be much nicer ;-)
If you need a beta tester, just drop me a note.

Sun fits me best. I'm currently based in Germany (GMT +2). So we have to find a time where we both are online at Skype.

OK. I'm working on a simple Node.js WebSocket chat server that I will push to a new GitHub repository soon. :-)

Pushed to https://github.com/acani/Chats-Chat-Server

This chat server works, but:

  • the Chats iPhone client isn't programmed to connect to it yet
  • each user cannot connect to it with more than one device yet

Instructions: https://github.com/acani/Chats/wiki/Run-Servers-Locally-on-OS-X#chat-server
