Footer covers the left sidebar while scrolling the webpage to the bottom.
This will cover the content in the left sidebar, which is not pleasing. And even worse, this issue makes the content in left sidebar never fully visible if there is not much, or no, content in the right main area (no need to scroll).

The sample page (https://academicpages.github.io/) is also like this.

What is the screen resolution when you get this behavior?

1920*1080.

BTW, I still like how the left side bar and footer perform in this website (https://stuartgeiger.com/) (the old version of academicpages.github.io) where I don't see the issue I describe above.

Interesting, that's actually the same screen resolution that I have right now as well. Can you link me to the page where you are seeing this?

Just this demonstration webpage: https://academicpages.github.io/

Even I use the most updated version of Chrome in incognito mode. You observe differently on your computer?? That would be strange.

Yes, with a 1920x1080 screen the homepage should look like the following in Chrome:

Untitled

However, it does seem like your text is a bit larger than the default. Do you have the zoom level increased in Chrome?

Yes, I used 110% in chrome. But I changed it into 100%, it still the same:

For me, ideally the footer should not block the left side bar content irrespective of resolution or magnification.

It still looks looks like some sort of font scaling is taking place - you might want to check your Windows Display Settings to see what the "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" is set to.
