When developing AHCI ATAPI code I was unable to get SET CD SPEED command to successfully be issued to the drive. This feature not being configured during initialization results in AHCI CD/DVD drives defaulting to lowest disc read speed, which is very noticeably slower than normal AHCI ATA HDD/SSD storage speeds.
