In order to quickly have spam, propaganda, inflammatory or controversial sentences brought to the attention of the site admins, I propose the implementation of a simple moderation-request function.

Looking back, such a function could have prevented the current situation, where we are left with the result of a few Tatoeba members being able to add a large number of questionable sentences, by intermixing ordinary sentences with higly controversial content. Even now, after these users have been suspended, the greater part of their questionable sentences are fully available for searching, download, and translation. With the requested function, any user could flag these sentences as they come across them, without having to resort to comments and private messages to admins.

As for the UI for the function, I envision a button that when pressed expands to a text-input field which must be filled in with a motivation. Alternatively, there could be a choice of the most common reasons. "Spam", "Propaganda", "Conspiracy theory", "Controversial", etc. And, of course, there must be a button to confirm the request.

Every sentence that has been reported using this function should display a symbol saying that it has been reported, in order to prevent duplication of effort.

How about the tags “@spam”, “@propaganda”, “@conspiracy”, “@controversial”, and so on?

I didn't know about those tags. Are they being monitored by the admins?

I don’t think anyone is using those tags yet, but maybe they could be used until we have a separate feature.

@morbrorper Thank you, I have a few questions.
Are you proposing to implement this, or requesting this to be implemented by someone else?
I am concerned such a reporting function could be abused and result in over-reporting. Any thoughts?
What do Tatoeba admins think about your proposition?

It's a request.

It's a valid concern, but it could be mitigated by only allowing advanced contributors to use it. Abuse would be a ground for suspension, I think.

In fact I might be happy if one could use the "Not OK" (exclamation mark) review flag for this purpose. The implementation could then be a simple as creating a page that shows all sentences marked "Not OK", with the option to filter on language. That wouldn't create any stress on the part of the admins, only give them a new tool in the box.

What do Tatoeba admins think about your proposition?

I haven't heard either yea or nay. :)
